The first and most important lesson I learnt as a wannabe wildlife photographer growing up in the city, was that you’ve got to work with what you’ve got. There was no way I could spend time travelling the globe in search of exotic animals, or that I would be able to afford long lenses and pro kit - but I didn’t let that hold me back. I decided to work with what I had and get the best out of my ‘hand-me-down’ Nikon SLR and Nikon 28mm 1:2.8 Series-E lens.
These restrictions formed the foundation of my style of photography and I still carry those early lessons with me today. They influence my whole process, from choice of subject and creative approach, right through to the technical execution.
