Little Rann of Kutch (LRK) had been a fantastic destination where I photographed lesser flamingo close-ups and a 3-days young baby ghudkhur tailing her mother (Indian onager, Equus hemionus khur). LRK is located in Gujarat, India and once it was a part of the Arabian Sea. It was amazing to see and photograph wild species in LRK’s vast salt marsh because the encrusted soil flats offered a feel of vastness in the pictures. Moreover, it was spectacular to sight flamingos’ flocks in the morning. In addition, the evening light was lovely to make portraits in glittering grass.
I planned my trip to LRK in December-January as LRK floods with water during the Indian monsoon (June to September). Once the water level drops and soil encrustation happens in winter (October to February), LRK provides plenty of food and a comfortable atmosphere for flamingos to breed.
