Squacco heron scientifically known as Ardeola ralloides has a golden brown plumage and is one of the most beautiful and particular herons visible in the rice fields of the Vercelli area such as in Prarolo. In a wedding dress, the crest-like tuft stands out. The beak is blue and tends to black at the tip while the tail and belly are lighter, almost golden. The plumage is particularly large and abundant.
