The cattle egret, Bubulcus ibis, belongs to the family of medium-sized herons with white plumage and a short neck, yellow beak, gray legs. During the reproductive season, the adults show off a particularly bright livery, an orange livery on the body, on the back and on the head. In winter they are completely white and the beak is yellow. It frequents wetlands, such as this rice field when entering Prarolo, in the province of Vercelli in the beautiful period of the "checkered sea”.This specimen loves to follow the path of the tractors as they plow the fields.
