Whooping crane colt (Grus americana) in low flight over habitat along the Intracoastal waterway at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in Texas.
Whooping crane colts spend their first winter in Texas with their parents before leaving them to be self-sufficient. Whooping cranes are an endangered species in North America, and this flock at Aransas NWR is the only self-sufficient wild flock remaining.
