In Dec 2022, I visited Sweetwater Nature Preserve in Gainesville, Florida. I noticed this Limpkin. Limpkins are tropical wetland birds whose range reaches Florida. They specialize in eating apple snails, which they hunt both day and night, and they often leave telltale piles of snail shells at the edges of freshwater wetlands where hunting is good. Using my SIGMA 70-300mm lens attached to NIKON D800, I was able to get his bird while waiting patiently for his/her prey.
