I saw this immature Gray Hawk seemingly "jumping around" on the ground. It appeared the hawk had found a good decoy for prey and was practising getting airborne, flying and landing with the bait in its talons for at least one hour.
There were many mishaps, the hawk had trouble getting airborne, lost the decoy during its short practice flights and crash-landed. Happy to say though that some months later I saw what I believe is the same Gray Hawk that had caught an iguana for breakfast. Practice paid off.
