Photographing the wintering Bald Eagles offshore near Homer, Alaska. The birds are fairly easy to approach and all sorts of behaviors can be observed.
Many birds perched on driftwood, some flying low and hassling the others, it seemed that rarely in this group did a real battle ensue.
These two had a momentary spontaneous battle with a classic talon lock as they came tumbling down to the ground. The intensity of their expressions is telling.
