Hi, I am called a Willet, and I get my name from the piercing sound I make that sounds like PILL-WILL-WILLET! It’s a territorial song, which has a high pitch and then sometimes I will repeat it faster. I am a shorebird, and I love walking on the shore, sand, and shallow water poking around looking for something to eat.
Most of the time you will find me doing this. Today I was in some mudflats poking for insects, molluscs, and worms just poking away, and then I saw this little crab. I usually tip my head back and move the bite to the back of my throat and my tongue helps me to manoeuvre the crab into a good position to swallow it. My saliva helps me a lot to swallow it down easier, too.
It’s like chew, gobble, and then a big GLUP! Remember if you hear my sound you know I am being threatened. You might want to see if I am okay. Got to go, I need to eat my yummy crab for my breakfast, and I will still stay around here because I am really hungry this morning for breakfast. Bye for now.
