Hi, I am called a Timber Wolf or sometimes people will call me a GRAY WOLF. We are the largest members of the dog family. Although most of us are gray, we can also be brown, white, or even black. We weigh about 100 pounds, and we are about 5 feet long or a little longer. You can hear me at the zoo HOWLING and when I am on my own in the woods, I will HOWL there too. We HOWL for many different reasons and if you want to know why we HOWL, you will have to read more about me. In the wild we usually live and hunt in packs, We can be found on many of the continents. When we live in the wilderness, we do try and stay away from people. When you take our wilderness away we end up seeing you all a lot more. We live in packs, which includes a male, a female and their PUPS. We are nocturnal animals which means we hunt for food at night and sleep during the day. We will hunt deer, moose rabbits, birds, and many other animals. If we are hunting in a pack we make sure we kill a large animal that we all can enjoy for dinner. We breed in the winter season or in late April or early May. We have our PUPs in an underground hole or den, and we have 4 to six PUPS in a litter. When we are 2 years old we are considered an adult. If you ever see me in the wild, just leave me alone and I promise I will leave you alone. If you are visiting at the zoo, you will know where I am by me HOWLING LOUDLY sounds!
