Hi, I am a Glossy Ibis. I am a medium waddling bird with an iridescent bronze and red brown color all over, but with a thin band of white feathers around my bare dark blue face. I have a long curved bill like other ibis. My eyes are dark and I have skinny yellowish gray legs. You can find me in wetlands and marshes along the Gulf and Atlantic Coasts. You can also find us in Venezuela, Eurasia, Asia, Pacific Islands, Africa and Australia.
You can hear me loudly making the sounds GRAA… GRAA. or a CHHEEEE EEEEN sounds. We fly proudly with our necks stretched out. If you see a group of us, you would call us a WEDGE, a CONGREGATION or a STAND. We love to eat, fish, frogs, and aquatic creatures and yummy, fat insects. You can find our nests in trees and bushes which are made from twigs and sticks.
Our females will lay 3 to 4 eggs and after an incubation period of about 21 days, our cute chicks will hatch. Both parents take part in incubation, and feeding the chicks. At one month old, the chicks are ready to fledge. When they are two months old they get to go with their parents to forage for food. We have to beware of predators such as other birds, and Alligators. Please keep an eye out looking for me, and maybe I will come closer to say hello!
