These pelicans just love to float in the ocean, and relax. They are very splendid fliers, and can soar so high like Eagles with their giant wings. Getting up in the air, I noticed, can be challenging without the help of the wind boosting them up. The Pelicans have to run over the ocean water surface of the water with both their feet in unison, and beating their big, strong, pounding wings to get enough speed to takeoff. It was fun watching them fly in flocks as they are very social birds. They could fly in a V formation but most of the time I saw them fly in a single row. When not eating or looking for food, they will spend most of the time preening, snoozing, and yes sunbathing. But at dusk they are all settled for the night. Their heads rest back on their shoulders and their eyes are closed shut and their feathers ruffled against the cold. These birds are always doing something, and everything they do seems as though everyone is watching them. I think in so many ways the Pelican's do like the attention.
