Each Spring I head down to the bay near our home to welcome our magnificent visitor Bald Eagles who usually stay from May until mid- June. It is exhilarating to witness their incredible aerial acrobatics and then, to have your heart racing when they dive right over your head like a 747 jet. I can spend hours at the beach mesmerized by these raptors!
But the juveniles hold a special place in my heart. One year, after seeing two young eagles, one of whom was my friend, Juvi, sparring with each other close to the ground, I was gifted with a beautiful talisman—a speckled tail feather which I treasure.
This year I met the new juvenile you see in my photo. I just love his candid gaze and his extraordinarily gorgeous plumage. I should also mention, I watched this brave one trying to steal Midshipman fish from a number of adults. He's a fast learner and will be outmaneuvering his elders soon no doubt!
