Had a very close encounter with this female Peninsular Rock Agama (Psammophilus dorsalis) during one of my visits to the Eastern Ghats.
From afar, these lizards appear to blend well with their surroundings due to their drab olive brown color which is similar to the rocky hills that they inhabit.
However, this portrait shows the intricate details of texture and coloured spots on the dorsal part of the species.
Also known as South Indian Rock Agama, it is a common species of agama (a family of iguanian lizards) found on the rocky hills of South India.
