Mammal Rodent of large dimensions, with stocky and robust build. It has a light brown, tending to yellow or reddish coat, with a white muzzle and chin. The ears and eyes are small in size. It is easy to find the animal in aquatic environments, such as, in this case, in the paddy field or on the edges of country roads. It is commonly referred to as a beaver. In this regard, the nutria can be confused with the beaver from which it is clearly distinguished by the shape of the elongated tail. In the Vercelli area there are many farmers who complain of damage due to the presence of this animal. Nutria can be a potential vector of parasites and other pathogens. Its expansion has been limited by planned abatement plans, however it is a species of easy recolonization and expansion.
