I was told by a friend there were 9 Owlets in Northern IL in one tree. It was a long hike back to see the Long-eared Owls.
The hike was 3 miles round trip through a snowy, icy wetland / prairie. The temperature was just a little over 0 Fahrenheit with the wind chill. When we came up to the tree that had the Owlets, I counted 7 of them. They were sleeping behind branches, and stayed up high in the tree. I was not able to get a good photo of them together. I did see was one preening, that was out father in the open, and clicked this click. I didn't want to stay long and disturb them resting.
