I take daily morning walkabouts with my father (88-years-young) along the Mississippi River on the Iowa side. This time of year the bald eagles come out early to eat so we plan our walks accordingly. Often, there are more eagles flying by the Lock and Dam #11, last year there were almost 100 perched in the trees, but our more enjoyable walk is along the railyard to the south of the historic city downtown. This day I was using my Canon 5d Mark III with a Tamron 150-600mm and was able to follow the juvenile bald eagle as it flew over the open water area located between a mostly frozen Mississippi River just after sunrise.
