Walking in the Mines of Spain along the Mississippi River and railroad tracks, this little Pileated Woodpecker followed me a while allowing me to capture some close up photos using my Canon 5D Mark III with Tamron 150-600mm lens. Each day we walk along different paths in our city, one along the Lock and Dam, another on Schmitt Island, the Art River Walk, the Rail Yard, and several in the Mines of Spain area, such as Horseshoe Bluffs, Calcite, and others. This was the Calcite Trail near Julien Dubuque Memorial Gravesite.

The woodpecker is a Downy or Hairy woodpecker, not a Pileated.
