Often the easiest way to find these little birds out on the wetlands is by listening out to their high pitched chirp. For such a brilliantly coloured bird they are actually surprisingly well camouflaged whilst tucked away in a freshwater mangrove tree.
This particular individual was an absolute dream to photograph, darting back and forth from his favourite perch into the water and back ! We were able to get close enough to capture this intimate portrait without disturbing his usual feeding behaviour.
